Loacker - rooted regionally, present globally
When the site in the Domenicani Square became too small and unsuitable for the increasingly industrial operations in 1974, a new location had to be found. However, it was absolutely unthinkable for Armin Loacker to move to Bolzano/Bozen industrial zone, into the neighbourhood that was heavy industry at that time.
His motto: "A natural product made in a natural environment. That is why we need clean air, pure water and the mountains." Therefore, Auna di Sotto/Unterinn on the Rittner high plateau above Bolzano/Bozen, the provincial capital of South Tyrol, in the heart of the Dolomites was chosen. During the Second World War, founding father Alfons Loacker's children were taken to safety there, which is why there is a special connection with this area.
When looking for the second location, the requirements for a natural environment with clear water and fresh air were important again. Therefore, in 1999, the site in Heinfels was opened, which also lies in the heart of the Alps in East Tyrol, Austria. During product manufacture at 1,000 metres above sea level, we always keep an eye on what is most important to us: the naturalness and authenticity of our creations.
The "pale mountains have always fascinated people with their rough walls and gorges, looming mountain tops and gentle mountain meadows and valleys."
In 2009, the Sciliar and the Catinaccio were added to the list of the UNESCO World Nature Heritage as part of the Dolomites because they are of "unique monumental" beauty - according to the committee. The diverse flora with more than 2,400 plant species was also highlighted in the UNESCO report.
Between the Schlern mountains and the Passo di Costalunga/Kararpass also lies the legendary rose garden (Catinaccio/Rosengarten) with its well-known story. It tells of King Laurin and his undying love and explains why the mountains turn fire red whenever the sun goes down. Loacker has captured the unique magic of the roses from this legend in the Rose of the Dolomites praline for you.
Based on its distinct shape, the Sciliar/Schlern is not only South Tyrol's landmark but, as a symbol of naturalness, purity and origin, it can also be found in our logo on most of our packages.
The employees at our head office in Auna di Sotto/Unterinn are always looking out at the impressive mountain. But this view will never get boring because it always shows itself differently, depending on daytime and season, displaying its beautiful colours.
